CARDIOLOGY

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Cardiovascular diseases are the most common diseases of today and if you have problems with your heart, know that you are not hopeless in your troubles and that many people today still live a good quality life with this problem.

Cardiovascular examination, ECG, ultrasound and Echocardiogram

Cardiovascular examination, ECG, ultrasound and Echocardiogram is a combination of tests that gives a good insight into the state of heart health and indicates the possible need for additional cardiovascular examinations.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Angiological examination, ABI index, Lower extremity arterial ultrasound (+CD)

Angiological examination, ABI index, Lower extremity arterial ultrasound (+CD) is a combination of tests that gives a good insight into the condition of the leg arteries and their monitoring, following the decisions on possible further procedures.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Sports cardiovascular examination

Excessive sports effort increases the transient risk of sudden cardiac death. In people older than 35, the main cause of death is coronary heart disease (heart attack), and in younger people it is due to several congenital or acquired heart defects. With this package of tests some of the diseases can be identified.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

ECG

An ECG (electrocardiogram) is a non-invasive examination that shows a fixed picture of the heart’s electrical activity over a short period of time. The examination gives an insight into the work of the heart and can indicate various heart diseases.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Ultrasound and Echocardiogram

Ultrasound + Echocardiogram is a non-invasive imaging method that gives us an insight into the structure of the heart, the dimensions of the heart and of the large blood vessels, the function of the heart valves and damage to the heart muscle. This examination is very important for diagnosing various heart diseases, especially heart defects, as well as for their monitoring and treatment.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Holter blood pressure

Holter blood pressure (24 h pressure measurement) – average of total, day and night pressure values are obtained with about 50 individual pressure measurements over 24 h. It is used to diagnose high blood pressure and to monitor the progress and success of antihypertensive therapy.

It is good to come to the examination in more comfortable clothes (have a T-shirt or undershirt).

Holter monitor

Holter monitor records the heart’s electrical activity (ECG) over a longer period of time (usually 24 h). The examination can detect various fast or slow heart rhythm disorders, assess the severity of heart arrhythmias, reveal the cause of syncope and evaluate antiarrhythmic therapy.

In our polyclinic, you can do a three-day and a seven-day Holter monitor (wearing a Holter monitor for a longer period of time enables easier detection of paroxysmal (occasional) atrial fibrillation as well as other heart arrhythmias).

It is good to come to the examination in more comfortable clothes (have a T-shirt or undershirt).

Ergometry

Ergometry or cardiac stress test is a confirmed non-invasive method for detecting coronary heart disease, which also has a prognostic value as a monitoring method. The examination indirectly detects reduced blood flow (ischemia) of the heart muscle. The most common indications for this test are chest pain or pressure, symptoms that indicate possible poor blood flow to the heart muscle, some of the heart arrhythmias, heart valve disease, and the monitoring of patients who suffer from the well-known coronary heart disease.

It is good to come to the examination in more comfortable shoes and clothes.

ABI index

The ABI index is a non-invasive procedure that is easily performed, and represents the ratio of blood pressure of the lower leg and upper arm, which allows us to further diagnose the severity of peripheral arterial disease and detect patients with increased cardiovascular risk.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Ultrasound + Carotid and vertebral artery doppler ultrasound

Ultrasound + Carotid and vertebral artery doppler ultrasound is a non-invasive method that provides insight into the condition of the arteries that supply blood to the brain. The test provides an insight into the degree of changes in the walls of blood vessels (atherosclerosis) and helps assess the risk of stroke and heart attack. The method is very useful in elucidating the causes of dizziness, headaches, tinnitus and memory disorders.

No special preparation is required for the examination.

Ultrasound assessment of lower extremity arteries (+CD) Arterial Duplex Ultrasound

Ultrasound assessment of lower extremity arteries Arterial Duplex Ultrasound is a non-invasive method that provides insight into the flow of the structure of the arteries in your legs. The examination is indicated for pain in the leg muscles when walking or when the color and temperature of the extremities change, which may indicate narrowing or blockage of the artery. It also serves in the assessment of cardiovascular risk.

It is good to come to the examination in more comfortable clothes.

Ultrasound assessment of lower extremity veins (+CD) Venous Duplex Ultrasound

Ultrasound assessment of lower extremity veins (+CD) Venous Duplex Ultrasound is a non-invasive method that provides insight into the anatomical appearance of the venous system consisting of a deep and superficial system. This test most often diagnoses varicose veins, venous thrombosis (superficial or deep system) and determines the degree of insufficiency (impaired venous flow).

It is good to come to the examination in more comfortable clothes.

Polyclinic Nikša Drinković has a partnership with the Croatian Health Insurance Institute (HZZO), so it is possible to perform ultrasound + echocardiogram, ergometry, holter monitor and
holter blood pressure (24 hour pressure measurement) via a referral.
